In this post, I will be showing you how to connect a PC to an access point in the packet tracer.
By default, a PC has an Ethernet module (interface) that it uses to connect to a network using a cable. For a PC to be able to connect to a wireless device like an access point or wireless router, we need to replace this Ethernet module with a wireless module.
We will be connecting a PC to the access point shown in the network below;
Note: We completed the router and access point configuration on a separate post. We configured the router as a DHCP server and configured the access point to broadcast wireless signals with an SSID (netizzan) and password (netizzan). Consider checking out the two posts below if you are curious to learn how we did it.
Here is a video on how to connect PC to access point in packet tracer;
How to Connect PC to Access Point in Packet Tracer
Here are steps to connect PC to access point in packet tracer.
Step 1: Remove the ethernet module
By default, a PC has an Ethernet port that it uses to connect to a network using a cable. To be able to connect to a wireless network, we need to replace this Ethernet module with a wireless module.
First, turn off the power, and then drag and drop the Ethernet module outside to remove it.
Step 2: Add a wireless Module
Once you have removed the Ethernet module, you can now add a wireless module by dragging the WPC300N and then dropping it on the port. Then, turn the power on.
Step 3: Connect to the Access point
To connect to the access point, navigate to wireless configuration by going to Desktop>PC wireless.
Once you select “PC wireless,” you will be taken to a page looking like the one below. Then select the SSID for the access point and click on Connect.
You will be prompted to enter the password for the access point, enter it appropriately, and then click on Connect.
Because I configure DHCP on the network, the PC will automatically obtain IP address.
Note: If DHCP is not configured on your network, you need to assign a static IP address to the PC so that it can be reached by other network devices.
